This project represents the extension of classic Hall voltage measurements to samples brought out of equilibrium by optical excitation. The main goal of the project is the construction of photo-Hall effect apparatus, which will allow us to provide measurements of semi-insulating materials at a defined temperature. Setup will be used for the study of deep levels in CdTe/CdZnTe samples used for fabrication of X-ray and gamma-ray detectors. Obtained data will be extremely important for improving the quality of charge collection and characteristics of CdTe/CdZnTe detectors as well as for the description of carrier trapping and understanding the mechanisms of space charge formation.A large number of defects have been detected using a number of techniques, but only Photo-Hall effect measurements are an effective tool for identification of deep levels affecting charge transport properties in CdTe, where the sign of Hall voltage gives us the explicit information on the character of the level. Proposed experiment is unique due to the skilful combination of hardware and new ideas. In spite of evident importance for the deep levels characterization, the Photo-Hall effect spectroscopy remained beyond the interest of researches so far. There are very few publications on the subject in the scientific literature
