Functional study of prokaryotic homologs of Nramp transport proteins

Abstract: Proteins from Nramp family (Natural Resistance-Associated Macrophage Protein) symports divalent metal ions together with protons trough cell membrane into cell. This work aims at quantification of proton flux mediated by membrane transport protein MntH from E. coli and homologous transporters from following organisms: Erwinia chrysanthemi, Physcomitrella patens, Haloferax volcanii, Serratia marcescens, Streptococcus mutans and Xanthomonas campestris. These homologous proteins belonging to different phylogenetic groups of Nramp family, was investigated in bacteria E. coli overexpressing given protein using fluorescence of pHluorin ‑ pH senstitive variant of green fluorescent protein.
